As an Artist - World Builder at Dovetail Games in the years 2019-2020, I helped create digital representations of real world rail routes in Train Sim World, using Unreal Engine. It was a collaborative effort between artists and developers of different specialisations.
My work as a World Builder involved terrain sculpting/painting, asset placement (buildings, foliage, clutter, collectibles etc), technical tasks such as collision setup, research/reference gathering (Google Earth, photographs, videos, maps etc) and documentation. The 3D assets themselves were created by other artists.
I was involved in the following routes:
• Tees Valley Line (around Dinsdale, Teesside Airport, Allens West and Eaglescliffe stations)
• Peninsula Corridor (section between Redwood City and Mountain View)
• Rhein-Ruhr Osten (area between Wuppertal Steinbeck and Langerfeld, including Wuppertal Suspension Railway)
• East Coastway (areas around Lewes and Glynde)
• Canadial National Oakville Subdivision (southernmost industrial complex)
• Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr (section between Mulheim and Essen West)
• Köln Schnellfahrstrecke (Cologne/Köln end of the route)
• Hauptstrecke München - Augsburg
• LGV Méditerranée: Marseille – Avignon
• Long Island Rail Road (just the menu screen diorama)
